dude FUCK I wish... I WISH I knew what it was like to live without the incessant sounds of the world. Imagine living 200 years ago. Just the sound of the wind and the trees and the birds and animals and sometimes hoots and hollers of folks around you... maybe a distant jangle of a band playing.

9/10 weird unexplainable but ultimately harmless mysteries are advertising man I just heard about the thing with an aeroplane company having weird moans and words play throughout the plane on different flights and people are like oh what could it be what could it be. I’d bet money on it being done by the company in the hopes someone will make a tiktok about it and people will suddenly be talking about their company. Like sorry there is no man that appears in everyone’s dreams, it was actually an advertising campaign all along
#obvs most people know this man isn’t real. but I always get the sense that people believe it was a creepypasta#or some weird art project. it wasn’t. it was advertising

Pictures to follow
Today 8th August has been an exhausting but very fruitful day.
Hubby went to the hospital to have his stump checked, pump removed and bandaged back up. Only 1 tiny spot is still leaking. So they'll keep repeating this process until the wound area is fully healed and stitches finally removed.
Whilst there, we went for a coffee and had a toastie each. A little girl had an oopsie moment when she accidentally tipped her milkshake onto the floor. She instantly burst into tears when she realised what she did. Her mum remained calm and mopped as much up as she could. A staff member cleaned the rest. If it had been me, my mum would have given me hell and reminded me of how much she'd paid for that.
How times have changed
We popped up to the ward where hubby has been staying, to drop off thank-you gifts - boxes of biscuits and I was treated to a brand new bag/purse/mobile phone holder combo. Because my backpack is now falling apart.
En route home via the bus, we managed to get some decent seats and instead of going straight home, we decided to travel further and pop into a charity shop. Where they'd advertised a bomber jacket that was perfect for Bossys hubby. It's his birthday soon so that was one gift sorted.
We also got a wee haul of a few items
Buttons
Knitting needles
Ribbons
Zips
A glass jug
A wheelchair cushion
And
Some really fancy yarn!
We decided to take a nice walk back home and hubby treated himself to an electronic chess set!
Further on, we popped into Aldi to 'look around ' and spent a fortune on shopping. So we had to get a taxi back home
So yeah, my back was absolutely aching so I chilled out as soon as we got home. Hubby went for a lie down and I zonked out almost immediately!
We had home made burgers for tea and a bowl of fresh fruit and jelly for dessert
Hoping to have steak dinner tomorrow. Hubby is really impressed with the rotisserie/airfryer because it cooks meats perfectly without drying them out too much.
And he was glad that I came along to the appointment and showed him how easy it is to take your time and not rush around so much. There's so much more you can see.
On the bus, I spotted an aeroplane flying very low, it must have either taken off or was landing somewhere!

A-T-4 042 Art Of Versions
The Art of Noise follow the Into Battle EP with Beat Box. As you've probably guessed from previous ZTT and AON posts releasing many different edits and versions was their m.o. The image (I got at least) was the technology (most noticeably the Fairlight) and time in the studio gave you the ability to churn out endless variations (AON released at least 11 'diversions' of Beat Box). It was great advertising for Trevor Horn as he and his partner owned one of the most sophisticated recording studios on the planet at the time. It's easy to see similarities with Jamaican producers and studios that in the previous decade created dubs and versions, although the closest AON got to producing a riddim would be Moments In Love which has been covered, remixed, and sampled a lot a lot. We have had pop music factory production lines before and I suppose this is where Trevor Horn crosses over with his contemporary Pete Waterman, according to Phil Harding "Waterman watched Trevor Horn so closely that he would strike a deal with equipment suppliers to furnish him with whatever state-of-the-art gadgetry Horn had." Before his hit factory had been established Waterman produced a Relax sound alike track, complete with a look alike sleeve, in 1984 called The Upstroke by Agents Aren't Aeroplanes. Nowadays trap music can be made quickly for very little money and production is more automated and streamlined than it ever has been
Beat Box was the first track AON worked on and it came from JJ Jeczalik messing around with recordings of Yes drummer, Alan White's drums with a Linn drum machine, a Fairlight CMI Series II and Page R (music sequencing software) while Horn was working on the Yes album 90125 (the similarities between the Red + Blue Mix of Owner Of A Lonely Heart and Beat Box are unmistakable). "So JJ was screwing around in the back room and I remember him playing me that 'Beat Box' drum loop and I said 'Jees, that's fantastic, they'll love that in New York.'"
...And they did, Beat Box did very well on the Billboard dance and black music charts in America, reaching number 1 and 10 respectively. Writer Simon Reynold's has written Beat Box was popular with breakdancers in the US, I believe it's still popular with poppin and lockin dads (and granddads)
In June 1984 AON released their debut album Who's Afraid of the Art of Noise? the title a pun on the 1962 play and later film Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? which is itself a pun on the song Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? from the 1933 Walt Disney cartoon The Three Little Pigs... would we call this a meme?
On the album is Close (To The Edit) which would be released as a single in October 1984. There were five different 12" versions of Close (To The Edit) released, including a picture disk. As far as I can tell AON put out six different versions of the track at the time, including the LP version (that's if I ignore the cassette single). To make matters more confusing Close (To The Edit) evolved out of the afore mentioned Beat Box. Beat Box Diversion Two is a version of Close (To The Edit) and vice versa, as are Diversion Seven and Diversion Eight. Close (To The Edit) was named after the Yes album Close To The Edge and they had fun with the names of the various versions of Close (To The Edit) that they put out, Close-Up, Closer, Closest, Closely Closely (Enough's Enough), Closed
Close (To The Edit) features Anne Dudley playing a very familiar sounding walking bass on piano, if we ignore the car ignition sounds they also use a sample of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy by The Andrews Sisters. I wondering if this comes from the Duck Rock sessions the then unnamed AON did with Malcom McLaren? I'm thinking Buffalo Gals is taken from a song reference in It's A Wonderful Life, that film was made in 1946 when boogie woogie was the sound. It's either that or they love boogie woogie and swing. AON do love film genre recordings Peter Gunn, Dragnet, James Bond, Robinson Crusoe...
There's another diversion on the Close (To The Edit) singles, a track called A Time To Hear (Who's Listening). Of course there's a few versions, Who's Listening goes into Beat Box and then Close (To The Edit), as does the version called A Time To Clear (It Up) ("all together now") - there's very little difference between these tracks, then there's A Time To Hear (We're Listening) which is the first minute and a half of A Time To Hear (Who's Listening) - the variations of names is more fun the tracks themselves when there's very little to tell them apart... unless the lesson is to accept being resold more of the same stuff in a slightly different package and disappointment
Oh and all these records have come out and Marley Marl still hasn't sampled a drum beat

[In Keep the Aspidistra Flying] half of Orwell is still hankering after an old-fashioned 1890s aestheticism, while the other half cheerfully extracts a Swiftian horror from the processes of ordinary life. Above them sounds a small but insistent prophetic note. ‘Presently the aeroplanes are coming,’ Gordon reflects early on in the proceedings. ‘Zoom-whizz-crash! The whole world is going up in a roar of high explosive.’ ‘My poems are dead because I’m dead. You’re dead. We’re all dead. Dead people in a dead world,’ Gordon lectures Rosemary in an uncannily accurate foreshadowing of Nineteen Eighty-Four. Even the poster advertising a preventative against sweaty feet that Gordon works on after his return to the agency—‘P.P.’ [pedic perspiration] WHAT ABOUT YOU?’ (the slogan is reckoned to have a ‘sinister simplicity’)—seems only a short distance away from the world of Big Brother and the Thought Police.

A Leith aeroplane.
The Edinburgh man who was flying his aeroplanes before the Wright Brothers. John Gibson was creating 'flying machines' from a workshop on Leith Walk while the fathers of modern flight were still wrangling with bureaucracy thousands of miles across the Atlantic.
It’s really quiet today and have no further anniversary posts, while scouring for more I came across these interesting couple of photos.
Henri Farman built the first practical flying machine and tested it at Issy-les-Moulineaux, near Paris, between November 1907 and January 1908. In America the Wright brothers managed to satisfy the U.S. Government that they had a practical flying machine during tests from July 27th to 30th 1909, but by then John Gibson had already tested numerous prototypes on Leith Links. On 9th October 1909 the Leith Observer reported on Gibson's 19th model as follows: 'Mr John Gibson, Caledonian Cycle Works, Leith Walk, has made a model aeroplane of one-fourth of the real size. It is on view in his motor garage in Manderston Street. The aeroplane stands on three wheels. The flying man sits in the centre of the plane, the great "wings" terminating in square "ailerons" on his right and left. At his feet is the 6-cylinder engine; at his right and at his left hand a lever. Attached to the frame of the plane, and only a few feet from his opened-out arms, are two propellers. Belts or ropes from the one engine shaft (one belt being a crossbelt) cause the two propellers to revolve, as desired, at the rate of 1000 revolutions per minute. The aviator with his foot raises or depresses the elevator, the slightly bent horizontal bit of sail in front of him, over which is the broad, pear-shaped keel. Behind him is the framework of a few feet, ending in the double rudder, by which the course is changed. The whole machine looks like a huge cross, of which the "upright" is short and the transverse beams (the wings) long, in front the elevator and keel, behind, the rudders, both of which work in unison. A petrol tank is fixed a few feet above the head of the aviator. The present is Mr Gibson's nineteenth flying machine, and he confesses to having had his disappointments with some of his earlier efforts. The machine is well worthy of inspection.' John Gibson finally opted for the Farman biplane, which a few months later he was advertising for sale.
Manufactured from Gibson’s own drawings, or built to customer specifications, the models did not come cheap, with prices starting at £450 - around £50,000 in today’s money.
Another newspaper report told how, during an "experimental flight" in Cramond, a biplane "of Leith construction" suffered a fault, causing the aircraft to "accidentally turn in a complete somersault".
After four years of being the talk of the Walk, the entrepreneur had ceased production of his aircraft shortly before the start of world war one, returning to the ‘day job’ of cycle manufacturing.
The workshop departed Leith in 1916, setting up in Dalry. The last mention of the Caledonian Cycle Works to appear in print was a notice of a ‘clearance sale’ shortly before the move, though it is unclear whether any plane parts remained.

At one time mobile catering consisted of almost entirely box shaped 'burger vans'. Occasionally someone with a touch of flair, or perhaps just a bit mad, would put together something quirky. With the dawn of the instagram generation, boxy burger vans suddenly dropped out of vogue. To get ahead you really needed people to be sharing your set up. Sure, good food was important, but it was no longer the sole arbiter of success. Your food truck needed to look better. We are going to be taking a look at some of the quirky, weird, wonderful and downright strange catering outlets around the world. Happy Larrys Shipping containers are ubiquitous throughout the world. A standardised method of transporting goods via road, rail and sea. Many of them however do find a second life as something totally different. From bars, to offices to mobile toilets. They have also found favour with catering vendors. The basic container is a strong watertight structure, that is built to accurate dimensions, and lends itself to conversions. Happy as Larry is an Australian company that specialises in selling Napoli-style wood fired pizza. A nice touch in this container conversion is that they have replaced much of one side with huge glass pains to give a real contemporary feel to it. Space Shuttle Cafe If you are looking for something to convert into a food truck, the most obvious thing you could think of is an aeroplane. Probably not! This one was converted to a mobile eatery by GMC in 1976. But it started life as an actual flying machine in 1944. Cotton Candy Jeep One of our favourites this, take an iconic WWII off road vehicle, and shove a cotton candy (candy floss if you live this side of the pond) machine in the back. Oh and for good measure paint it all pink. Walls Mini Ice Cream Truck Walls ran a campaign called 'Goodbye Serious', where they built a miniaturised ice cream truck designed to drive into offices and dispense their best selling goodies. This is one seriously quirky little food truck. Though some of our taller staff might struggle to operate in this one. K99 Ice Cream Cart This one is notable, not for being a different type of food truck. But because of its target market. This sells ice creams for your canine companions. That's right, doggy ice creams. Seems that scientists have discovered that gammon and chicken-flavored ice creams really hits the spot for our doggy friends. Vintage Caravan These are gaining in popularity, and are being used for everything from a gin bar to a burger joint. The ironic thing is, was during the late 90's, the fairground industry used these for staff quarters, then tended to scrap them at the end of the season. If they were scrapped, it wasn't unknow to just remove all identifying marks and leave them in a layby for the council to dispose of. You try buying one now, I have seen them advertised for upwards of £30k. Step Frame Food Truck More of a Stateside set up, they have a plethora of large step fram delivery vehicles from the likes of Dodge, Ford, GMC etc. These are pretty near the size of a 7.5 tonne lorry in the UK and make an ideal blank canvas to fit out as a mobile eatery Airstream Style Food Truck Another option hailing from the good ole US of A. Airstreams were originally touring caravans. Till some adventurous soul decided to cut the side out and add a kitchen. They are now a fairly regular sight on the UK scene. With both the original Airstream brand and a number of both EU based and Chinese manufacturers building similar looking trucks. Converted Vintage Horsebox Stunning Horsebox Food Truck Hire A regular sight nowadays, horseboxes are easy to obtain, pretty easy to convert and very flexible, though a bit on the small side for some catering options. Prices are steadily rising, to the benefit of anyone needing to dispose of a horsebox that's past it's sell by date. What you once would have scrapped, you can now get a tidy few grand for. Snow Mobile Food Truck This one is as far as we know, pretty unique. A burrito joint on a tracked snow mobile platform. Great for last minute corporate jobs in the arctic. Bloody noisy if you need to take it down the M1 motorway to London. London Red Bus Yoghurt Truck An iconic British vehicle this time, an ex London Routemaster bus, turned into a yoghurt dispensary by Snog. A cool vehicle for a cool brand serving a cool product (literally)! The Peanut Van Occasionally there are totally custom built trucks out there. I've seen vehicles that look like hot dogs, doughnuts, oranges. This one is a peanut. Leaves you in no doubt what the product is. Land Rover Ice Cream Truck Another off road vehicle pressed into service. We have already had a Willy's Jeep with a candyfloss machine. This one is the UK equivalent. In vehicles that is, not food. This is one cool ice cream truck. Monster Truck Another ice cream van. This time shoehorned into a monster truck. Unless you are 6ft 6 you need step ladders to be served here. Rocket Launcher Coffee Truck A big boys toy this one. A coffee truck on a rocket launcher. Though it didn't work out too well for two of the staff when they were arrested for causing panic on the streets of Malaysia. What's next, doughnuts served from a Challenger tank? Tactical Tapas Another paramilitary offering. Tapas from a tactical armoured car. It's all starting to get a bit Mad Max. Fire Engine The last couple of options were built on trucks designed to blow things up and start fires. These were designed to put them out. Popular both sides of the pond, though the US fire trucks just seem to be a lot more jazzy. Read the full article
